DECIDING TO MAKE LES MIS—THE MOVIE.

DECIDING TO MAKE LES MIS—THE MOVIE. I can see why statistical models were included in the decisionmaking for Les Mis—the Movie. Although the theater version had a great success, the decision to make LES MIS—the Movie must have been difficult. There had been unsuccessful attempts to make a movie out of the stage version over a period of over 20 years. The stage version had had a narrow escape in the first place. The reviews were harsh. (Galloway in his article on the decision quotes one review which had called the show “a witless and synthetic entertainment”) As I told the story in this post, Cameron Mackintosh, the producer, had walked to the theater the day after the opening to announce that the show would close because of harsh reviews. Cameron found a long queue waiting to buy tickets and kept the show open.
