WORDS FROM CHILDHOOD–MORGENGNAVEN (COMMENT). Simon Gray kindly explained in a comment some Danish words that I remembered from my childhood and posted about here. I e mailed him and asked him about a Danish word that I spelled “mawngenown.” He advised that the word is correctly spelled “morgengnaven” and the plural is “morgengnavne.” In his comment he said that the word “morgensur” would more frequently be used (combining words for “morning” and “sour”). However, the word applies to both men and women. My mother’s claim that only men could be grumpy in the morning must have been either my mother’s mischief or my grandparents’ mischief.
