TERROIR FOR COLAS. I posted here about my inability to discriminate among wines and—indeed–my inability to tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke. This article by Sam Schechner in the Wall Street Journal tells about the proliferation of cola brands in France. One of the cola brands maintains that cola flavors should be as varied as the flavors of French wines. The colas emphasize their local origins. Schechner refers to “a wave of cola-makers that apply a local approach to the global drink, tapping into the country’s pride in regional specialties like Roquefort cheese and Burgundy wine.” He quotes on cola maker: “We have a real product of the terroir.”
