LIGHT SABER DUELING IS NOW AN OFFICIAL SPORT IN FRANCE. I am evidently fascinated by novel sports. I have posted a number of times about them. In this article on the IGN website, Colin Stevens reports that the French Fencing Federation has recognized lightsaber duels as a competitive sport.
“During 3-minute matches, participants use rigid polycarbonate lightsaber replicas, with LED-lighting giving them their iconic glow – some even use the more expensive models that generate sound effects.”
The sport will not be recognized in the 2014 Olympics in Paris.
The 2014 Olympics? Is time travel involved?
I think if the duelist does not own one of the expensive light sabers that makes sound effects they themselves should be required to make the sound effects themselves and be judged on their quality.
Seriously though this is cool. First Quidditch now light sabers. The world is moving in a nerdier direction. I approve.
