“CECI N’EST PAS UNE RUE”. This article by Jennifer Rankin in the Guardian (August 22, 2018) describes a project to give new names to streets in a new development in Brussels. One of them will be called “Ceci n’est pas une rue” in homage to René Magritte, the great Belgian surrealist painter. Magritte’s “The Treachery of Images” is a painting of a pipe with “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” inscribed under the pipe.This article by Jonathan Jones has a reproduction of Magritte’s painting.
