“CECI N’EST PAS UNE RUE”. This article by Jennifer Rankin in the Guardian (August 22, 2018) describes a project to give new names to streets in a new development in Brussels. One of them will be called “Ceci n’est pas une rue” in homage to RenĂ© Magritte, the great Belgian surrealist painter. Magritte’s “The Treachery of Images” is a painting of a pipe with “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” inscribed under the pipe. This article by Jonathan Jones has a reproduction of Magritte’s painting.
