MASS MIGRATION—THE YAMNAYA. One of the dramatic findings of ancient DNA has been to discover that: “the population of northern Europe was largely replaced by a mass migration from the eastern European steppe after five thousand years ago.” About 5000 years ago is the time period when Stonehenge was being built. (Reich p. xix). Reich dramatizes the effect of the migration: “People like those at Stonehenge were building great temples to their gods….and could not have known that within five hundred years their descendants would be gone and their lands overrun.” Ancient DNA shows that five thousand years ago, the people who are now the primary ancestors of all extant northern Europeans had not yet arrived.” (Reich pp.106 to 107)
They were the Yamnaya.
