BASEBALL AND COMPROMISE. Gerald Seib in the Wall Street Journal (July 17) quotes George Will: “I always thought baseball was the right sport for democracy because there is so much losing….Democracy is the system of the half loaf. Nobody gets all they want. The same is true for baseball.”

Baseball fans do talk about “perfect games” but there have been only 23 so far in the major leagues out of 210,000 games played, according to this wikipedia entry.
