A SUGGESTION FOR SOCCER TIE BREAKS.

A SUGGESTION FOR SOCCER TIE BREAKS. I posted here during the 2010 World Cup about ways American lovers of baseball can argue with fans of “the beautiful game” (which, surprisingly, soccer is sometimes called). Suggestions included making scoring easier and eliminating flopping.

Another area for improvement would be to find a way to eliminate the use of penalty kicks to decide tie games. Penalty kicks replaced flipping a coin some years ago, but penalty kicks are almost as random a process as flipping a coin.

Jason Benetti, an American sports announcer has suggested a possible improvement:

To break a tie at the end of overtime, throw a second ball on the field and play with both balls.
