WHAT COLOR IS A TENNIS BALL? In this article on the Atlantic website (February 15, 2018), Marina Koren describes a poll taken on Twitter which asked how participants describe the color of a tennis ball. Out of about 30,000 participants—a large, but not a random sample—52% said “green”and 42% said “yellow”. I was astonished. The poll was apparently taken to resolve a marital dispute, but Mary Jane and I are in agreement that there is no question that tennis balls are “yellow”.
Koren notes that her colleagues who ventured an opinion on the color of tennis balls were or became fierce supporters of their opinion. Koren says that: “The long conversation that followed can only be described as a bloodbath.”
