RIGHTS OF PASSAGE IN THE 1950’S. I remember the “Turkey Red” incident in part because of the funny name of the lipstick. But there was another revolution that was just beginning. Using lipstick was a big deal for high school freshmen in the 1950’s. It was not used in what we called junior high school. Only a few years later, friends of mine who were teaching were laughing about how much they had learned about makeup from the middle school students they were teaching.
