IS IT NOW ILLEGAL TO THROW AN OCTOPUS? I posted here about the long tradition in Detroit of throwing an octopus on the ice during important moments in Detroit Red Wing hockey. I included the caution that: “the octopus should be boiled prior to the game to prevent it from sticking to the ice.” Now it appears from this article that a fan has been fined $500 and ejected for throwing an octopus onto the ice during the first Red Wing playoff game. The article is critical of the penalty, which apparently is at the instigation of the National Hockey League. The Red Wings seem to continue to support octopus throwing.
