“VALUE PLANNING.”

“VALUE PLANNING.” To give an idea of the kind of analysis in the Paint Technique section of the James Gurney blog, the post “Value Planning” (March 29, 2011) shows how value structure or tonal structure—a monochromatic grisaille painting, for example— can be used in preparing for an oil painting. Gurney gives the example that: “Norman Rockwell was the king of planning the value design first in charcoal before jumping into oil.”
