“WHERE DO I GO TO DENOUNCE….?” During the 1980’s I read an interview with an American lawyer who specialized in representing Soviet dissidents—refugees who had settled in the United States. He helped them with immigration issues and the legal problems of adjusting to a new country. He said that a number of them, after being in this country for a period, would call him and ask his advice on how to go about denouncing one or another of their acquaintances. Expectations about what governments are like are hard to change.
