OZZIE AND FREE PIZZA.

OZZIE AND FREE PIZZA. In the spring, Baseball Prospectus made a splash by predicting that the White Sox, who had won over 90 games the last two years, would win only 72. They won 72. I have always been happy with Ozzie Guillen as the manager. It’s more fun to win or lose with a long-time White Sox player as manager, and Ozzie represents a raffish element which is part of the White Sox. One of my high points for the year came after they won four games in a row against Tampa Bay at the end of June after a stretch of going 5 and 22. That wasn’t the high point. Tampa Bay gives away free pizza to the fans any night that the Tampa pitchers strike out 10 or more opposing batters. The Sox struck out 10 or more times in all four games. After the first three games with 10 strike outs, Ozzie announced that he was going to buy a ticket for the fourth game to get his pizza. When the tenth batter struck out in the fourth game, Ozzie brandished a pizza box in triumph. That was the high point.
