LISTENING TO BASEBALL GAMES TO GO TO SLEEP (COMMENT). Charlie Finley was a maverick owner of the Oakland Athletics. He was something of a baseball genius, having built the great Oakland A’s teams of the early seventies singlehandedly, without a scouting department. Finley said that he became a baseball fan when he was in a tuberculosis sanatorium as a young man. He needed to sleep, but had insomnia. Listening to baseball games put him to sleep. He loved the game which had helped him recover his health.
