AMERICA HAS BEEN BLESSED WITH UNPOPULAR PRESIDENTS. A related proposition for discussion related to yesterday’s proposition. Once again, I am looking back in time for those who weren’t there. Almost fifty years ago there was concern that the American Constitutional government would be unbalanced by heroic or “charismatic†(that was the word used at the time) Presidents. The issue was raised by the popular admiration for Eisenhower and then for Kennedy. Since then, we have had a long string of Presidents who for one reason or another have put that concern on the back burner. Note that I am not questioning the ability or success of any of these Presidents, just their “charisma.”
