SKI JUMPING FOR FUN. Like many people, the appeal of spectator sports is greater for me when I have played even a distant variant of the game for fun—say, touch football or 3 on 3 basketball. Perhaps skiing jumping is like skiing, but I doubt it.
Eddie was a figure who drew us into his sport. Watching Eddie jump, it was easier to imagine doing it ourselves, even though it was obvious that even performing at his level required tremendous skill. And bravery. I once read a quote from an American ski jumping champion who said that you had to learn ski jumping by the time you were four because after that, you were too smart to try it.
