STORIES WITHOUT AN ENDING. Jonathan Franzen has an article in the New Yorker (October 25) about “The Birth of ‘The New Yorker Story’”.

He writes: “Outside the offices of The New Yorker, its fiction editors were rumored to routinely delete the final paragraph of any story accepted for publication.”

I laughed out loud.
