This blog post by David Horspool on the TLS site on the Feast of St Crispin and St Crispinian takes the position that Agincourt was “…initially, a very big game of chicken”. Henry was the first to advance, but then stopped his advance. The French then charged, with disastrous results. On this reading of the events, the medieval military theory that you should not move first was borne out.
