HERE IS THE HEAD, I’LL CARRY IT MYSELF.

HERE IS THE HEAD, I’LL CARRY IT MYSELF. Jesse Green’s reference to an audience’s tittering at MacBeth’s head reminds me that of all the lines that Mary Jane has delivered on stage, my favorite, and the one that Nick, Annalisa, and I have quoted to her most often, comes from Measure for Measure. Mary Jane played the Provost. The line is: “Here is the head, I’ll carry it myself.”

It’s a satisfying line, but it’s also a difficult line to deliver while brandishing a head and then stuffing it into a bag.
