THE GREATNESS OF STEVE LAWRENCE AND EYDIE GORME. While a graduate student, Mary Jane taught English composition at different colleges in New York City. She learned and became a devotee of the Bruffey Method, which taught students how to write persuasive essays. The first step was to choose a proposition for which there were arguments on each side. She still talks about the essay which argued that: “Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme are the greatest entertainers in the world.” And she still talks as well about the conversation she had with the student about the essay.
