LUCK AND THE WORLD SERIES. In a short series, anything can happen. So runs a lot of thinking about baseball. Leonard Mlodinow’s article has a very helpful analysis of the role of luck in the World Series. Assume that in a World Series, one team has a 55/45 edge over the other. That is, in a one game series, the weaker team has a 45% chance of winning. In a seven game World Series, the weaker team still has a 40% chance of winning the Series.
