WRITING KING LEAR.

WRITING KING LEAR. Another thought about a writer’s life. This one has been with me for over forty years. When we were reading KING LEAR, Professor Glenn O’Malley commented that many critics think that LEAR is so harrowing that Shakespeare must have deeply sad when he wrote it. O’Malley said that he himself thought it would be exhilarating to be writing KING LEAR.

  1. Mary Jane Schaefer says:

Not to pull an Erika Jong and compare myself to Shakespeare, really I’m not doing that, I’m just lumping myself in with all other writers: while I was writing “Shakespeare in the Dark,” I felt so stressed out, especially at night when I wanted to sleep and couldn’t turn my mind off; but now that I’ve got it drafted, I miss the excitement of the visitations from all the ideas, etc. The girl just can’t be satisfied!
