PAYING ATTENTION TO THE DETAILS OF LIFE. This is a time of year when many of us resolve to be more mindful of the moments that constitute our lives. A number of the presentations at the Boring 2010 Conference were reports by people who were paying attention to boring parts of their lives well before the conference was even planned. One of the men reported on his visits to 160 London stores to analyze the “availability, price and storage conditions” of one brand of chocolate bar. One man reported on each of his sneezes over a three year period. One of the ladies who attended the conference takes photographs of random marks left on walls. The people at the conference seemed to feel that these kinds of boring activity enhanced their lives. If you feel that there are a lot of boring moments in your life—“admin”—maybe the New Year is a time to think about ways to deal with that.
