The name came from La Rotisserie Francaise, on 52nd Street in New York City because that is where the idea was first broached. The first draft was held in a bar on Third Avenue. Because many of the founders were in the media, there was a lot of press coverage the first year. The inventor says “The second season, there were Rotisserie leagues in every Major League press box.” And our league had its first season.
