GO, CUBS! The Cubs are in the playoffs! As I said here, like a lot of White Sox fans, I will be happy if the Cubs can go all the way. I sometimes say that I’m a fair weather Cubs fan. I only suffer with the White Sox.

It’d be great for the city if the Cubs won the World Series – although I shudder to think what that would mean for Jay Marriotti.
Personally for the last month I’ve been pulling for the Rockies, and the end of the game tonight was one of the most exciting I’ve seen in ages. That team can rake. I hope they win it all.
Them or the Indians. For Jacob’s sake.
I was so surprised when I found out that Cubs fans and Sox fans tend not to like each other. I’d heard whispers of this a few years ago, but it wasn’t until Conan O’Brien’s show went to Chicago for a week that I actually saw it happening. When Conan mentioned the Cubs, half the room booed. When he mentioned the White Sox, the other half of the room booed. It sounded like pretty serious booing too, not lighthearted or humorous.
As a White Sox fan far removed from watching much actual baseball, this confuses me greatly. The two teams don’t even play against each other often, do they? I would’ve thought they’d feel some kind of fondness for one another given that they represent the same city. I’ve heard Dad complain about Oakland and the Twins often enough, but they were opponents.
