“ANDOUILLE”.

“ANDOUILLE”. Seeing the derivation of the naughty word “cacaboody” from “boudin” brought back a memory from over fifty years ago. An American friend who had spent rather a long time in France said that he had wondered about French swear words, so he had conducted a survey in bars over several months testing reactions of Frenchmen in conflict situations to various swear words. He said he was a little surprised that “andouille” was a clear winner.

This wikipedia entry defines “andouille” as “a smoked sausage made using pork, originating in France.” The entry says: “Andouille is also an insult in French, designating an imbecile, or a rascal.”
