PAUL ROMER AND THE USE OF “AND”. This post by Tyler Cowen on Marginal Revolution gives some more background on Romer’s clash with the World Bank staff. Romer objected to bank staff members trying to pile their own pet projects and messages into every report (apparently because they were irrelevant to the main point and diluted the reports). Cowen quotes a Romer e mail which was itself quoted in the Financial Times. The e mail complained that “our message is ‘this, and this, and this too, and that …’ the word ‘and’ has become the most frequently used word in Bank prose,”
