ARE BERT AND ERNIE GAY? The debate over whether Bert and Ernie are gay has broken out again. Google turns up a number of articles on the subject just for today. Here is a Sesame Street statement on the subject from today: “”As we have always said, Bert and Ernie are best friends….They remain puppets, and have no sexual orientation.”
There was similar kerfuffle several years ago, and a a similar Sesame Workshop statement then. A story ran around that a little girl heard the announcement and started sobbing. “Bert and Ernie are PUPPETS!” she choked out.
