TENNIS BALLS—THE RETURN OF THE BLUE DRESS. The other explanation offered by Koren is that the problem is the same as the problem of the blue dress that I posted on a number of times, including here. The issue, much debated on the internet, was whether the dress in this picture was blue with black lace fringe or white with gold lace fringe. One theory offered was that the eye adjusts to take in the background light, and different people make that adjustment differently. Some people discount cool colors in their perception, while others discount warm colors, in order to view objects consistently as the light changes around them. People who see the dress as white and gold, because they are predisposed to discounting cool colors, should see the ball as yellow. Those who are predisposed to discounting warm colors should see the ball as green.
