OTHER APPLICATIONS OF FORENSIC ENTOMOLOGY. Wikipedia has quite a lot about forensic entomology, much which is devoted to somewhat gruesome determinations of the victim’s time of death based on the species of the insects that are infesting the corpse (the species vary depending on the days of decomposition of the body).

This entry has one more “true crime” solution based on a mosquito. The Finnish case involved establishing a suspect’s presence in a stolen car based on finding in the car a dead mosquito who had bitten the suspect. Case Study #1 in the entry describes finding a dead mosquito who had bitten the victim on the wall of a suspect’s house. This “placed the victim in the vicinity, if not in, the suspect’s home. Experts identified the mosquito as C. pipiens, a species not known to travel far distances, such as between the suspect’s home and the crime scene.”
