WHITE SOX AND CUBS. The Chicago City Series begins today. The White Sox –Cubs hatred is greatly exaggerated. This is not European soccer. And it couldn’t be. The fans have the same experiences. Both teams are ultimate underdogs. Every White Sox fan is surrounded by Cub fans who are friends and relatives. It couldn’t be that people hate half the people whom they know. (That’s true of Republicans and Democrats as well). Pay attention to the shots of the fans in the stands during the City Series. White Sox and Cub fans are sitting together because these are games you want to watch with your buddy who roots for the other team. I’d be happy to see the Cubs win a World Series (although in truth I am very happy that the Sox got there first.).

As much as I don’t really hold any grudges against the Cubs – only their soon-to-be-gone ownership – I somehow take quite a bit of pleasure in their failures.
The Tribune is responsible for so much of the resentment. It’s one thing to be a homey. It’s another thing to try to make your team look good by dissing the other home team.
