THE 35TH GENERATION OF A FARMING FAMILY.

THE THIRTY-FIFTH GENERATION OF A FARMING FAMILY. This article in the Economist (March 2) describes the objections that British farmers have to European Union agricultural regulations. The article quotes Francis Dymoke complaining about the common agricultural policy funding for his farm being reduced “as punishment for a small number of untagged sheep.” Dymoke says: “My shepherd was close to tears this morning.” What struck me about the article is that Dymoke and his son are “the 34th and 35th generations of the family to run the 3,000-acre estate at Horncastle.”
