WAITING FOR THE RAPID CHESS ROUNDS (COMMENT). Nick commented on yesterday’s post that Carlsen had been criticized for offering a draw in the twelfth and last game of “classical” chess—-even though Carlsen seemed to have the advantage.
Nick added that “Some people were very upset about it.” I found this article by Mike Klein at the chess.com site in which Klein expresses his feelings about the draw: “It was like watching the first half of a Tarantino movie, only to have all the characters then decide to put down their weapons and decide their differences over tea.”
Nick also noted that “Carlsen is, at least on paper, much stronger in shorter time formats” I looked up the FIDE ratings for September 2018 for Carlsen and Caruana here at chess.com.
In “classical” chess, Carlsen is ranked number 1 in the world and Caruana is #2.
In “rapid” chess, Carlsen is #1 in the world and Caruana is #9.
In “blitz’ chess, Carlsen is #1 in the world and Caruana is #18.
