WINNING WITH STYLE IN THE BEAUTIFUL GAME. France is playing Croatia tomorrow in the finals of the 2018 World Cup. Today’s Wall Street Journal has an article by Stacy Meichtry and Joshua Robinson that reports that many French soccer fans will be disappointed if France wins, but does not play a beautiful game. Winning is not enough, and there are those who deplore that France’s wins thus far were not aesthetically pleasing. The article quotes a “prominent soccer commentator” who says that: “If we become world champions, we’ll be the ugliest world champions in history.”
