PENGUINS ALL AROUND. This article by Fiona MacDonald on the Science Alert website tells of the discovery of a colony of penguins in the Antarctic. There are estimated to be 1,5 million penguins in the colony. What is remarkable is that such a large colony was unknown. It was finally discovered in NASA satellite images of the area. I said that there are “estimated” to be 1,5 million penguins on the islands. In fact, using a hand count and drone surveys, researchers found that there were 751,527 pairs of penguins on the islands. I marvel that both that there could be so many penguins that had not been discovered and that the technology exists to “count” them.
