THE LESSON FROM THE GARAGE. My father didn’t like to throw anything away, especially legal papers, financial records and law books. My mother disagreed. One August day when I was a teenager, after my father left for work, my mother arranged for my brother and me to take everything in the garage to the front curb to be collected by the garbage men the next day. The garage was a two car garage, and it was completely full, and it took almost the whole day to empty the garage. After my father came home from work, we worked far into the night taking everything back into the garage.
The experience shaped my life. The lesson I took from it has stayed with me. The lesson is: never throw anything away.
