THE DANGERS OF DOORKNOBS.

THE DANGERS OF DOORKNOBS. The Economist (April 19) had an article about a new Vancouver regulation which bans doorknobs in all new buildings. The theory is that many of the elderly and the disabled find levered door handles easier to operate. Opponents of the new regulation point out that doorknobs present their own risks. In British Columbia, bears have been known to scavenge in cars by using door handles. A county in Colorado has banned door handles for this reason. One opponent of door handles has written that the volociraptors in Jurassic Park were able to use handles to open doors.
