FAN BOBBLEHEAD NIGHT. This article from Sports Illustrated (November 25, 2002) by Franz Lidz tells how Mike Veeck was continuing the Veeck family tradition. Some of his ideas for promotions echoed earlier Bill Veeck efforts. Marriage Counseling Night relied on audience voting: “Spouses air their grievances to the crowd, which sides with husband or wife by holding placards aloft. “‘If the relationship can’t be healed,’ Veeck explained, ‘the team pays for a divorce.'” Some of Mike Veeck’s ideas haven’t worked. I remember seeing advance publicity for vasectomy night, when a lucky fan would get a free vasectomy, but apparently that fell through. Of the ideas Lidz describes, the most appealing is Fan Bobblehead Night, where a lucky fan gets a bobblehead doll made with his image.
