CATCHING A BASEBALL DROPPED FROM A HELICOPTER. This article by Blair Johnson and the accompanying video recount the feat of Zack Hample over this weekend of catching a baseball dropped from a helicopter hovering 1050 feet overhead. He broke Hall of Fame catcher Gabby Hartnett’s record of catching a ball dropped from a blimp from a height of 822 feet. The baseball Hample caught took about 12 seconds to come down and reached a speed of about 95 miles an hour (less than a Verlander fastball).
