NAMING “THE GREAT RECESSION”. During the several years I have tried to be consistent about calling the state of the economy “the current financial crisis”. John Lanchester calls it “the Great Recession”. I think that’s a better name, and I am going to try to adopt it consistently. Lanchester also says that the Chinese call it “the Western Financial Crisis”.
