LEFTY GOMEZ’S CHRISTMAS TREE STORY. I posted here about our family’s struggles with putting our Christmas tree, including how we discovered that Christmas trees shrink, and I posted here about LEFTY, the biography of Lefty Gomez by Vernona Gomez and Lawrence Goldstone. LEFTY has a family Christmas tree story. Lefty drove to upstate Connecticut and found an enormous tree, so big that he couldn’t get it into the living room without cutting it in half. He kept the bottom half and threw out the top half. They decorated a tree that “stopped in the middle.” The memory is that: “The ornaments looked lost because they were decorating a forest….When the kids came in to experience the wonder of it all, they get smacked in the face with an evergreen branch.”
