THE COLOR REVOLUTION. I have lived through a number of revolutions without realizing that there was a revolution going on. One of the revolutions that I have lived through is the “Color Revolution”. The Atlantic has this review of Regina Lee Blaszczyk’s THE COLOR REVOLUTION, which describes the accomplishments of color engineers over the last hundred years. For example, colors were standardized so that “all stop signs are precisely the same shade of red, and…all boxes containing the same product are exactly the same color….” The Atlantic says that THE COLOR REVOLUTION “traces how the analysis, forecasting, and manipulation of color trends spread from the fashion industry to the production and marketing of durable goods….” Apparently it was during the 1950’s that marketers took to predicting the precise shade of color which would be in fashion. For automakers, the decisions on color had to be made 18 months in advance.
