PIANO PRODIGIES AND ATHLETICS. I have been conscious of the athleticism of many musicians at least since— as I posted on here— I encountered the basketball coach saying about the piano virtuoso Van Cliburn, “Six foot four and hands like that! What a waste!” I watched this recent video of a five year old year boy from Hong Kong playing the piano, and marveled at his athleticism. I can believe that musical talent is evident at a young age, but I have never seen a five year old soccer player or T-ball player with that kind of athletic talent.

Have you seen a video of Lang Lang performing?
He may be hamming it up a bit, but his athletic flourishes are impressive, as is the sound he gets from his instrument.
