TRANSLATING THE SWEDISH CHEF INTO SWEDISH. I have always been a big fan of the Swedish Chef. I posted here about when Mary Jane—as Miss Piggy—was the star of the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade and I accompanied her—costumed as the Swedish Chef. Jeremy Stahl has posted on Slate translations into Swedish by Emanuel Tilly of clips of the Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show. The transcriptions are based in part on what the Chef’s nonsense sounds like in Swedish. The transcriptions seem to be in subtitles on the clips. Stahl has added translations into English by Kristine Bergstrom of the Swedish transcriptions. I was pleased to see that “bork, bork, bork” is transcribed as “bort, bort, bort”.
