MY POLITICAL HERITAGE. Kids, even though I try to model this blog on our family dinner table, there are a lot of differences. One is that we talked about politics at the dinner table more than this blog does. My parents were far apart politically. My father was a Roosevelt/ Truman/ Stevenson Democrat (that is, a liberal Democrat). My mother was a Taft Republican (that is, a conservative Republican). They changed allegiances over the years. We liked to say that in his last year my father had become a Reagan Democrat and that in her last years my mother had become a Clinton Democrat. Some of the characterization was teasing on our part, but a lot of it was not.
