BEING TAUGHT TO GIVE UP. I think that one of the things that most children are taught in school is that there are things they will never learn. This teaching is especially tragic if the subject is reading or arithmetic. I learned early that I couldn’t sing or do art. They were right about the singing, but—I think like most people—I can do art well enough to enjoy it. It’s a matter of practice.
