THE DIFFICULT LIVES OF WELL-ADJUSTED YOUNG MEN. By age 50, almost one third of the group in the Harvard study had met the lead psychologist”s criteria for mental illness at one time or another. The psychologist who started the study said, “They were normal when I picked them. It must have been the the psychiatrists who screwed them up.” The case histories selected for the article show dramatic changes for the men every few years. As I posted here, Michael Apted, the director of the UP SERIES quoted the wife of one of the participants in the UP SERIES; “Every life is an act of courage and everybody has a story.â€
