A few weeks ago I watched Blue Velvet again for the first time in about 10 years and it came to mind when I was reading your post about the seamy underbelly of idyllic towns. Twin Peaks was probably another example of a nice town with a dark side (or at least a weird side). To digress from David Lynch, though: I really enjoyed Winesburg. My first exposure to it was thanks to Dr. Mangum.
